Itot du Chateau wins the World Cup Qualifier at Olympia!

The diminuitive gelding Isovlas Itot du Chateau won Sunday night's big class, beating John Whitaker into 2nd place. Itot du Chateau is out of the mare Sophie du Chateau, who is a half-sister to Desir du Chateau - one of the stallions we exclusively represent in the UK. Itot du Chateau has been very impressive in 2008, including securing individual 10th place at the Beijing Olympics with a double clear.

We are very excited to see the foal we have due by Desir du Chateau in 2009 out of Cornish Gem (Rock King x Ben Faerie), who has been kindly loaned to us by British Eventing Team Selector, Bridget Parker.

The pair did not touch a fence in the first qualifier, the second qualifier, or the first round of the Final class. In the Final the pair had one time fault that prevented them from competing in the jump-off against the clock. Roundthorn Madios placed 14th in the Final.

In the Consolation class for 5-year-olds Dax van't Abdijhoeve (Desir du Chateau x Clinton) and Pieter Devos had two fences down. The pair had jumped clear and were joint winners of the first qualifier. In the second qualifier Dax had one fence down.

* TWO Condios progeny nominated to represent Ireland at World Breeding Championships for Young Event Horses!
Eventing Ireland and the Irish Horse Board announced that Robo Paddy is one of three horses selected to represent the Irish studbook at the 6-Year-Old CCI* World Breeding Championship for Young Eventing Horses at Le Lion d'Angers (France) on 16-19 October. Robo Paddy is a 2002 bay gelding sired by Condios and out of the mare Cavaliers Abbbey by Cavalier Royale.

Eventing Ireland and the Irish Horse Board also announced that Loughnavatta Papillo has been selected as the reserve entry for the 7-Year-Old CCI** World Breeding Championship for Young Eventing Horses. Four horses in this age group were selected and Loughnavatta Papillo will join the team if one of the four is forced to withdraw before the final entry date of 2 October. Loughnavatta Papillo is a 2001 bay gelding by Condios and out of the mare Ballin Clover Penny by Clover Hill.

* Loughnavatta Papillo Selected for Stepping Stones Program !
Loughnavatta Papillo, the 2001 gelding sired by Condios, is one of two dozen 6 and 7 year-old horses selected by Eventing Ireland for the Stepping Stones program. Stepping Stones is a collaborative venture by Horse Sport Ireland and Eventing Ireland to nurture "talented 6 and 7 year old Irish Bred horses and their riders. The objective of the programme is to identify and develop potential team combinations." The horses selected for the program, and their riders, will receive special training. This is the equivalent of the UK's "Equine Pathway".

* UK based Condios offpsring doing well!
Confident M2S (by Condios and out of Rainmaker by Chairmaker) has been competing well in England with his rider Lucienne Elms. They placed 9th in a Pre-Novice Plus event in Little Mattingley. Other good placings include 4th in the Pre-Novice at Salperton Park, 3rd in the Pre-Novice at Moreton, and 2nd in the Pre-Novice at West Wilts.

Confident M2S is a 2002 gelding bred by Morningside Stud. Irish eventing rider Carol Gee recently purchased his full-brother, the 2003 gelding Confidant M2S.

In other news from England, Stilo Kontiko (by Condios and out of the mare Blue Labamba) is continuing to perform well. This 2001 gelding bred by Linda Slattery recently placed 1st in the Intermediate class at Stockland Lovell, 31st in the Barbury International **, 26th in the Logleat International **, and 7th in the Intermediate class at Powdowham Castle. In all these events Stilo Kontiko and his rider Jason Hobbs jumped clear in both the showjumping and cross-country phases.

FSH purchases the proven Cavalier Royale/Bassompierre mare "Cant Touch This"!
We are delighted to announce the purchase of the extremely well bred and proven mare "Cant Touch This" from Quainton Stud. Cant Touch This showjumped successfully before retiring to stud, winning and being placed at Foxhunter level (1.20m) multiple times.

She is by the No.1 sire of eventers in the world, Cavalier Royale who sired Clayton Fredericks Rolex CCI**** winner Ben Along Time, as well as Mary King's Olympic Team Bronze medallist Call Again Cavalier. He is also responsible for 2 of Mary's other top rides, Imperial Cavalier and Cashel Bay.

Her dam-sire, the thoroughbred Bassompierre is the sire of David O'Connor's Olympic Individual Gold Medallist Custom Made, and is also the dam-sire of Pippa Funnell's legendary CCI**** horse, Supreme Rock.

We are very excited at the breadth of opportunities bringing these new bloodlines into our breeding programme will give us. She is in foal for 2009 to Quainton Stud's own stallion, Chadron Quainton who is 70 day tested and a paternal 3/4 brother to the Grand Prix & Nations Cup showjumping stallion Condios, who we are the exclusive UK agent for.

Future Illicit Opposition is Res. Champion Foal at the National Hunter Show!
After a very busy day at the BEF Elite Championship Show on Sunday, we were back at Addington again on Tuesday for the National Hunter Show. We only took one mare and foal to show - Future Illicit Affair and her foal Future Illicit Opposition (Lily). We entered them in the Lightweight Hunter Broodmare and Foal, and were over the moon when from a class of 17 (yes SEVENTEEN!) the judge tipped his bowler to Lily pulled her in as the winning Lightweight Foal!

She went forward to the Foal Championship and came tantalisingly close to repeating the feat of her full brother Future Illusion when he won the Lightweight Hunter Foal before being crowned Champion Foal in 2004. Unfortunately the dream wasn't quite fulfilled but we were still delighted when she was pulled forward as Res. Champion Foal.

We also took our lovely TB mare Persephone Heights for grading with SHB(GB) and were delighted that they regarded her highly enough to award her the top grading status of Head Stud Book. This means that 5 of our broodmares now have Head Stud Book status with 2 others, Juswith Genoa and Cornish Faer having Elite Head Book status.

FSH has the Highest Graded Eventer in the UK AND the Champion Eventer from the BEF Futurity Evaluations 2008!

Future Gold Digger has become the Highest Graded Eventer (Foal - 3 Yr Olds) in the UK in 2008 with the outstanding score of 92.5% following Evaluations undertaken of over 170 event horses which have been inspected. She is the highest graded event foal ever and the highest graded event mare/filly ever.

The top 16 event foals (which included Future Gold Digger & Future Proposition), top 8 Yearlings, top 8 2 Yr Olds & top 8 3 Yr Olds were invited to take part in the BEF Elite Championship Show judged by Yogi Breisner. We were delighted when Yogi decided that Future Proposition should be crowned Champion Event Foal and then go on to take the title of Champion Eventer (all ages).

Following evaluation of all of our foals, 4 qualified for the BEF Elite Show at Addington. Although all our foals are primarily bred to event, 3 of our 4 foals qualified in 2 disciplines. The rules for the Elite Championship meant that they could only come forward in the discipline that they had the highest score in. This resulted in Future Gold Digger and Future Proposition being presented in the Eventing discipline and Future Illicit Opposition and Future Poetry being presented in the Showjumping discipline.

The BEF had done a fantastic job of getting top riders and trainers to assess the young stock with the experience of training these young horses through to Olympic level. Carl Hester judged the Dressage horses, Geoff Glazzard the Showjumpers, and Yogi Breisner the Eventers.

We were delighted when from a class of 16 of the top showjumping foals in the Country, Geoff Glazzard selected Future Poetry as his Reserve Champion Showjumping Foal! She is by the Grand Prix Showjumper Condios out of our race winning and Head Stud Book SHB(GB) mare Persephone Heights.

Yogi Breisner cast his expert eye over the young event foals and broodmares and we were thrilled when he not only picked Allercombe Loveday as his Mare Most Likely to Breed an Eventer, but then also chose her foal Future Proposition (Nugget) by our young stallion Future Illusion, as his Champion Event Foal for the whole of the UK!

Nugget then went forward to the Eventing Discipline Championship with the Champion & Reserves from the Foals, Yearlings, 2 Yr Olds and 3 Yr Olds classes, and he was again Yogi's pick, making him Champion of the Eventing Discipline!!

He then went forward to the Supreme Championship against the Champions & Reserves of all Disciplines - Eventing, Showjumping, Dressage & Ponies. With all judges and evaluators assessing these top few horses it took a long time for them to come to a concensus, and we were stunned when Nugget was pulled out as Jt Reserve Supreme Champion!! Nugget took it all in his stride and watched patiently as horses were pulled out and trotted up. He was so chilled out he spent most of the Supreme Championship yawning!

We are particularly pleased with Nugget's results as he represents 3 generations of FSH breeding and is testament to our breeding policy and vision.

The Championship was a real show case for the quality of horses being bred in the UK and we hope will become a springboard for top level riders to encourage their owner to buy British. Congratulations to all those who were at the Show, their were some absolutely stunning animals which were beautifully presented, and thank you to all who were involved in the sponsorship and organisation of this prestigious event.

28th Aug 2008 Future Faere Illusion wins the Small Hack Yearling Class at Bucks County Show!
We were thrilled that Future Faere Illusion, the first foal ever sired by our young stallion Future Illusion, won the first Hack class he has contested at County level. He is clearly following in the hoof prints of his sire who won the Hack Championship at W. Midlands In Hand Show earlier this season!

FSH receives a postcard from Megan & her adopted daughter Zoe...
We were extremely impressed to receive a postcard from our high class mare Megan (Prime Thyme) and her foal Zoe who she adopted after the loss of her own foal F. Primitive Glory. We would like to thank Zoe's owner Sarah for posting it for them....

"YO Jules! ZO-Lo 'ere! Thought I'd send you a pic of me in the Future Sports Horses Baseball cap - it was very kind of you to send me one. I wanna get some trainers now to go wiv it, some well blingy ones innit!  I need 'em cos I is well clever an' I jumped the fence into the garden this week. Mum was very cross as I took some of the hair of my leg but I fink it looks well cool. Fank you, love, Zo x x

Dear Julia, We are having a lovely time in Suffolk now the weather has improved.  I am a little concerned that the other guests here are a bad influence on little Zoe as she has acquired a strange accent and most peculiar tastes. Princess Phoebe went to the spa yesterday for a mud wrap and was telling Zoe and I all aboout it, do you think I should mention that she is supposed to wash it off as she is completely caked still!  Poor dear, she is losing her mind at her age.  The Irish girl here seems to have a constant flow of boyfriends coming in and out - talk about playing the field!   I plan to settle down for the afternoon to read my original edition of Pride and Prejudice that I found in a local book shop, and hope that Zoe doesn't topple over the fence again. Children!!

Much love, Megan x x"

With over 6 years of updates on our website, it will take us a little while to migrate 100% to the new design though, so please bear with us!

We hope you enjoy your new Future Sport Horses experience and look forward to hearing all your comments. Please email us with your feedback at: info@FutureSportHorses.co.uk

Future Primitive Glory succumbs to Joint ill
It is with deep sadness that we have to report the loss of Prime Thyme's 2008 foal, F. Primitive Glory. She was well and lively on Wednesday 14th May at 2pm when the vet was in the stable treating her mother, and looked far from a foal with a serious problem. At 7.30pm that evening, I went into the stable to play with her, but when she got up she was on 3 legs and severely lame. The vet was called immediately but there was no visible injury, swelling or heat. In the time it took for the vet to arrive her off fore knee blew up. The vet tapped the knee joint which showed it was infected. We loaded them straight on the lorry and took them to Rossdales Veterinary Hospital in Newmarket and arrived at 11.30pm. They x-rayed the knee immediately which unbelievably showed an abcess in the carpel bone. We decided to give her a chance and agreed to her being operated on straight away. Andy Bathe operated on her and the knee was flushed 7 times to clear the infection, but he couldn't locate the bone lesion to treat it directly with antibiotics. He continued treating her for several days, but after 2 more knee taps and further x-rays the prognosis for her became significantly worse as the joint was becoming constantly re-infected. It was with a very heavy heart that we all agreed that it was time to let her go and not put her through further treatment as the odds for her being even paddock sound were very low. We have now bred 26 foals and this is the first time we have ever had a case of joint ill.

Less than half an hour later we had a phone call from Rossdales to say they had a foal born that morning which had been orphaned and would we consider letting Megan foster the foal. Although we just wanted to bring Megan home and look after her, we felt that if the boot was on the other foot we would very much hope someone would help us out. Having spoken to Sarah, the owner of the foal, we felt that there was no way we could not help out and agreed to the fostering. The process went very smoothly and Megan instantly took to her 'new' foal and she is successfully nursing and by all accounts is a fighter. Megan will now go home with her new foal to Sarah and we all hope that something positive can come out of this double tragedy.

Sarah very kindly sent us some photos of Megan & Zoe -

Fun in the sun (and hail!) at Belton International Horse Trials!
We had 3 days of fun at Belton International Horse Trials over the last weekend. On Friday Future Phoenix had her first Novice run and was superb over strong SJ and XC tracks. She showjumped in a deluge of hail which meant Emma could hardly see the fences. Phoenix was unfazed though and jumped a fabulous clear round. On the cross country track, which was as big and technical as usual for Belton, she was brilliant through the water and all the skinnies, angles and offsets. A hesitation at the bogey fence, the 'key hole' which is a completely enclosed circular sunken road, resulted in 20 penalties, but once she'd worked out the question she popped straight through it, and we were delighted with the manner in which she had responded to a serious step up in level.

On Saturday I attended a BE organised workshop for Controllers and Commentators. What an eye opener that was! It is far more involved and difficult than I could possibly have imagined as you have different people talking in your ears whilst you're trying to talk about a completely different subject. It's like trying to pat your head and rub your tummy at the same time! It was a brilliant day and my thanks go to Janet Plant and Henry Symington for organising and running such a well structured and informative day.

On Sunday, our young stallion Future Illusion took part in the Stallion Parade and we were delighted with his behaviour and the amount of interest he generated. My Stud Manager (Kelly) and I spent Saturday evening decorating my lorry with photos, awards and rosettes that Louis had won and had an absolute ball. After the parade we had drinks with prospective breeders with a DVD of Louis playing in the background, whilst munching on a selection of nibbles! It was tremendous fun and we had lots of laughs all day. Thanks to Belton Horse Trials for hosting the parade, and Gemini Stud for sponsoring it, it was a brilliant addition to their programme of events and we hope it will go from strength to strength over the next few years.
