Fun in the sun (and hail!) at Belton International Horse Trials!
We had 3 days of fun at Belton International Horse Trials over the last weekend. On Friday Future Phoenix had her first Novice run and was superb over strong SJ and XC tracks. She showjumped in a deluge of hail which meant Emma could hardly see the fences. Phoenix was unfazed though and jumped a fabulous clear round. On the cross country track, which was as big and technical as usual for Belton, she was brilliant through the water and all the skinnies, angles and offsets. A hesitation at the bogey fence, the 'key hole' which is a completely enclosed circular sunken road, resulted in 20 penalties, but once she'd worked out the question she popped straight through it, and we were delighted with the manner in which she had responded to a serious step up in level.
On Saturday I attended a BE organised workshop for Controllers and Commentators. What an eye opener that was! It is far more involved and difficult than I could possibly have imagined as you have different people talking in your ears whilst you're trying to talk about a completely different subject. It's like trying to pat your head and rub your tummy at the same time! It was a brilliant day and my thanks go to Janet Plant and Henry Symington for organising and running such a well structured and informative day.
On Sunday, our young stallion Future Illusion took part in the Stallion Parade and we were delighted with his behaviour and the amount of interest he generated. My Stud Manager (Kelly) and I spent Saturday evening decorating my lorry with photos, awards and rosettes that Louis had won and had an absolute ball. After the parade we had drinks with prospective breeders with a DVD of Louis playing in the background, whilst munching on a selection of nibbles! It was tremendous fun and we had lots of laughs all day. Thanks to Belton Horse Trials for hosting the parade, and Gemini Stud for sponsoring it, it was a brilliant addition to their programme of events and we hope it will go from strength to strength over the next few years.

The 1st of Winsome Adante's siblings joins Olympic Medallist Jeanette Brakewell & Brook Staples!
We are very excited that the first of the Winsome Adante's siblings, Future Genie, joined our young stallion Future Illusion for training with Jeanette Brakewell and Brook Staples on the 3rd November. Future Genie (aka 'Polly') is the first of only 3 siblings ever born from Winsome Adante's dam since 'Dan', all of which are owned and bred by FSH. We are extremely excited to see how well she follows in her superstar brother's hoof-steps! Polly settled in quickly and as of today was long-lining well with Brook commenting that she is very straightforward to work with. Hopefully within the next few days Brook will be on board! We can't wait to see what potential she begins to show once she is under saddle - photos to follow when we next visit! |

Future Phoenix qualifies for the PAVO British Eventing 5 Year Old Breeding Championships (twice)!
Future Phoenix has maintained an amazingly consistent record in her first competition season with 8 double clears from 11 runs. In the other 3 runs she added just a single sj rail and no xc jumping penalties. She has been rewarded by qualifying for the prestigious BE Breeding Championships at not one, but two venues - Purston Manor and Stafford. She certainly seems to be living up to her bloodlines as the commentator at Stafford noted when he announced "...out on course now another daughter of Primitive Rising, and not only that, a grand-daughter of Ben Faerie. If that's not bred to event nothing is!". She follows in the footsteps of Future Promise who also qualified for these Championships last year, when she was a 5 year old. |

100% 1st Premium Foals from Future Illusion's first crop including Joint Top Graded Foal of the Day!!
Future Illusion flew the flag in style at the BEF Futurity Grading at Arena UK, with his first two foals born taking 2 of the top 3 slots not only in the Eventing Foal section, but across ALL disciplines. Future Faere Illusion was the joint highest scoring foal of the day with an amazing 88% with the judging panel's comments reading "Refined, elegant, athletic colt. Superb type for eventing and with great potential". He was pipped to the post of being crowned Champion Event Foal as the category selected from the 5 grading marks to seperate Future Faere Illusion and the other foal which were tied with the joint highest grading marks, unfortunately favoured the other foal. He was therefore awarded Res. Champion Event Foal but retains the accolade of being joint high-scoring foal of the day. Future Magical Illusion, in the capable hands of his owner Rachael Mackie, also scored extremely highly with 85%, and finished as the 3rd highest graded foal of the day. It was a fantastic day for FSH with our first 3rd generation foals taking 2 of the 3 top grading scores awarded from 28 foals presented, across all the sections of eventing, showjumping, dressage and pony foals. It is a very exciting start to Future Illusion's career as a breeding stallion!
Future Faere Illusion also finished the day as the joint highest graded Eventer across all ages (foals to 3 Years) !
To get the joint highest graded event foal this year is a wonderful follow up to last year where we also had the highest graded event foal, Future Glamour. We are now looking forward to what next year will bring!

Winsome Adante take 3rd Place at Badminton Horse Trials !
After a fabulous dressage test and an immaculate cross country, 2 poles showjumping resulted in 'Dan' finishing in 3rd place. A clean round would have clinched victory - but that's horse trials for you - it's a three phase competition!! It was wonderful to see Dan perform so well on home turf and we hope he will visit again soon. Congratulations to Cinda and Brit who performed tremendously in all 3 phases to take the title - here's to the mares, who have shown that they too can perform successfully at the highest levels! |

Future Illusion spends some time with Olympic Medallist Jeanette Brakewell
We were delighted when multiple Olympic Medallist Jeanette Brakewell agreed to take Future Illusion for a few weeks this winter to back him. Jeanette reported that he's been very easy to back, had a canter you could sit on all day and settled into yard life with no fuss at all, which bodes well for his ridden career. The grooms said he had a big personality without an ounce of malice and he became a firm favourite in the short time he was there.

Future Promise is 3rd at the Burghley Young Event Horse Qualifier at Brockenhurst Park!
Future Promise yet again delivered the goods by finishing 3rd in a BYEH qualifier. Unfortunately only the first two horses qualified, so as with last year she missed out on a trip to Burghley by one position. Future Phoenix had her first outing in the 4 year old section and narrowly missed out on a top 10 place after a pleasing dressage and clear showjumping round. She took it all in her stride and demonstrated a calm disposition in an exciting new atmosphere, which bodes well for next year. |

Future Promise has a Double Clear at her first ever affiliated British Eventing Intro !
We were delighted with Future Promise's performance at her first ever event, having put in a respectable dressage (not helped by the judge in the next ring hooting her horn very loudly and a siren going off in the middle of her test!!), followed by a lovely balanced show jumping round, and a clear cross country run over what was quite a challenging track for an Intro. Let's hope this is a trend she continues! |

With 18 top class mares forward for we were delighted when the steward finally tipped his bowler toward Future Illicit Affair, giving her the win and The Millyn Cup. She also came very close to doing the double by having the winning Lightweight Hunter Foal in 2004 and 2005, but Future Indulgence was pipped at the post by another lovely hunter foal and finished 2nd out of 18 wonderful foals. Winsome Adante stamped his authority on an event that he's made his own over the last 4 years - leading from beginning to end, the only horse to finish on his dressage score (of 38.2), and winning by an unprecedented 17 points. No other horse in history has ever won the Rolex three times, and so Dan's win is a landmark victory. We can't wait to hear about the whole event from the Gooch's when they return! We're looking forward excitedly to the foal due to his mum in the next few weeks - another sibling for Dan and his yearling sister Polly.
First photos added!
Photos and the full story from the Gooch's to follow soon ! |

The Gooch's Visit Winsome Adante !
We received a very excited phone call from our good friend Janet Gooch who bred Juswith Genoa's son Winsome Adante, to say his owner Linda Wachtmeister had called them from America to invite her and her husband Chris over to see Dan at this year's Rolex CCI****. We're keeping our fingers crossed firmly at home that all goes well at the Rolex, and are looking forward to getting the blow by blow account of Janet & Chris's time in America. |

Juswith Genoa's son wins the World Breeding Federation for Sport Horses 'Leading Event Horse of the Year' for the 3rd time in 4 years!
Winsome Adante has topped the FEI points scoring table for the 3rd year out of four following his successes at the Rolex CCI**** and the Athens Olympics, finishing the year with a total of 266 points. Philip Dutton's 'Nova Top' was second on 221, with the Modified Rolex winner 'Windfall' in third on 216 points.
The top 3 British horses, Lord Killinghurst, The Psephologist and Ballin Coola finished in joint 5th and 7th places respectively. Jeanette's horse 'Over To You' was placed 9th with Limestone Rise, Primmore's Pride and Shear L'eau taking 12th, 16th and joint 17th respectively.
The only year since 2001 that Winsome Adante has not been the highest scoring horse was 2003 when he could not contest many events due to his rider Kim being sidelined with a broken leg for most of the season.
We're all looking forward to what 2005 will bring as 'Dan' is still only 11 years old !

Juswith Genoa's son wins individual Silver & Team Bronze Medals at Athens Olympics!
Winsome Adante and Kim Severson were the leading combination for the Americans at Athens Olympics, being rewarded with an Individual Silver and Team Bronze medals. After a very good dressage, Dan moved into 3rd after a clear inside the time on the cross country phase. Even with 2 rounds of showjumping in which he lowered 1 pole in each round, he secured his 2nd place behind Britain's Leslie Law.
Another reason to celebrate was the 10th place in Athens for Withcote Nellie, Juswith Genoa's paternal half-sister! Two close relatives in the Top 10 at the Olympics - let's keep our fingers crossed that this family continues to produce such stunning horses!

Juswith Genoa's son selected for Athens Olympics!
Winsome Adante was confirmed as a member of the USA Eventing Squad for Athens Olympics after winning the final selection trial which he led from beginning to end in the same fashion as this year's Rolex CCI****. He is a team horse as well as being able to contest an individual medal subject to him being in the top 25 scoring horses going into the second round of showjumping. He has now been shipped to England with his team mates to train with Capt Mark Phillips before travelling to Athens on the 10th August. Fingers crossed all goes well in Athens ! |

Holme Grove Genevieve delivers stunning Prokofiev daughter!
At 4.10am this morning, Genevieve delivered a big, strong, stunning filly by the sensational dressage stallion Holme Grove Prokofiev, who has been extremely successful recently under Peter Storr. We are thrilled with this filly who will stay in our herd as a competition prospect and future broodmare, due to her exceptional bloodlines and fabulous conformation. Bred back to thoroughbreds we hope to produce that illusive combination of movement, jump and speed. Fingers crossed for the next phase of our breeding programme!

Juswith Genoa produces and elegant bay sister for Winsome Adante!
After 11 years Juswith Genoa has produced only her second foal on Wednesday 12th May at 9.35pm, the first being the famous 'Winsome Adante', double winner of the Rolex Kentucky CCI**** in 2002 & 2004. Unfortunately, 'Danny's' sire 'Saunter' died the year Danny was born and with Saunter leaving no stallions sons, it was impossible to reproduce that line. However, with the help of Juswith Genoa's breeder, Marian Vaughan, who was instrumental in the selection of Saunter for the original breeding, we scoured books of stallions to find one similar in conformation and movement to Saunter. After many months, we found 'Andes' and Sporthorse (GB) graded throroughbred stallion who not only had the looks, the size and the temperament, but also had off-the-ground, sensational movement.
11 months later, Juswith Genoa has rewarded us with an elegant, charming filly foal. A visit from the Gooch's who bred Danny quickly followed the birth, bringing with them some photos of Danny as a new foal. To our complete astonishment, if it weren't for slight difference in the white markings, they were identical. So much so, that they could have been the same foal. The Gooch's also believe this filly is slightly taller than Danny, so she will hopefully reach that ideal 16.1hh. She will be retained by Future Sport Horses as a potential competition horse and broodmare, and will probably be bred as a 3 year old to perpetuate this very successful line, before commencing a competitive career herself.

Future Illicit Affair produces a stunning bay colt!
Future Illicit Affair has produced a stunning bay colt at 9.05pm this evening. Not only is this our first foal of the season, but it is our first 2nd generation foal, as Future Illicit Affair was the first foal bred by Future Sport Horses. He was very quickly on to his feet and has no white markings at all. He is incredibly similar to his mother when she was born - let's hope he ends up as nice !

Future Eclipse does it again winning the CIC 1* in Ballindenisk !
Future Eclipse scored back to back wins by taking the CIC 1* at Ballindenisk in Ireland on her second outing of the season, following her CIC 1* win at Barroca d'Alva in Portugal last month. As in Portugal, she led from beginning to end, posting a dressage score of 41.3 - an astounding 13 marks better than her nearest rival. With a clear cross country, and lowering just 1 forgiveable pole showjumping in what was bottomless mud, she ran out a clear winner of the section.
Our rider, Yarda Hatla had a brilliant weekend not only taking the CIC 1* with Future Eclipse, but was 2nd in the CIC 2* section with his horse 'Karla', and rode exceptionally to take the CIC 3* section on his Athens prospect 'Kyrenejenallas Boy'.
Well done Yarda, what a weekend !!

Future Eclipse shines in the sun in Portugal winning the CIC* and upgrading to Advanced
Future Eclipse kicked off the season in fantastic style by taking the CIC* in Barroca D'alva in Portugal finishing more than 8 points clear of her nearest rivals. She led from beginning to end, finishing on her dressage score. She was one of only 9 horses from a field of 78 to produce a double clear, one of only 5 horses to finish on their dressage score, and the only horse in the top 10 to showjump clear in a competition where all 3 phases had significant influence.
This win means Future Eclipse has now upgraded from Intermediate to Advanced.

Trakehners Hit the Eventing Headlines
Our decision to introduce trakehner bloodlines into our breeding programme received an unexpected boost this week with the arrival of our copy of December's Eventing magazine. Trakehner horses hit the headlines at both ends of the spectrum with Darren Chiacchia and the trakehner stallion 'Windfall' winning the individual Gold Medal at the Pan American Games, and trakehner youngsters taking both the 5 and 6 year old Breeding Championships at Tweseldown.
Our homebred mare 'Future Illicit Affair' is in foal to 'Fleetwater Opposition' (sire of 'Opposition Heracles', winner of the 5yr old Championship), and both 'Holme Grove Genevieve', and the stallion she is in foal to ('Holme Grove Prokofiev') are trakehners.

Holme Grove Genevieve joins Future Sport Horses
We are delighted to announce that Holme Trakehners, best known for their fantastic trakehner dressage horse breeding programme, have agreed to lease Holme Grove Genevieve to us, in foal to their outstanding stallion Holme Grove Prokofiev. HG Genevieve was the highest graded mare at the Trakehner Breeders Fraternity Show in 1993, and is already the dam of a number of exciting youngsters including a TBF graded mare, and two youngsters exported to the USA and competing successfully in dressage.
HG Prokofiev is 100 day performance tested, scoring 10/10 for stamina and jumping and is currently competing at Advanced Medium level dressage with Julia Wetton. He competed at the Summer Regional Finals this year, and has already qualified for the 2003 Winter Regional Finals where he will be ridden by Peter Storr. He is 5/8ths thoroughbred as well as carrying some of the best continental dressage and showjumping bloodlines. We are extremely excited about what this breeding will bring to our programme, both next year and in the longer term, especially with the increasing change to short-format FEI competitions. |

Future Eclipse produces another double clear and lands a place at Gatcombe Park British Novice Championships !
Future Eclipse has yet again produced another stunning double clear in what was a challenging British Novice Championship. Although this was the Novice Championships, each Championship is run at a level above the qualifying level - therefore the Novice Championships are the equivalent of a 'serious' Intermediate competition. Add to that the crowds and the buzz of a major event and you have the makings of a highly charged competition. However, Future Eclipse was fazed neither by the crowds nor the size and technicality of the tracks that Capt. Mark Phillips is well known for, and produced one of only 18 double clears from 70 starters. She produced a 33.0 dressage test which left her in the top 25% overnight. Future Eclipse then delivered a foot perfect showjumping round in a daunting environment which left her in 8th position going into the final phase. Over the biggest track she has seen to date, she produced a flowing and confident cross country round which attracted only 11.2 time penalties. Even with these additional penalties she posted an extremely respectable 15th place in a competition which had seen may good combinations have problems.

Future Eclipse wins Novice Area Final at Buckminster !
Future Eclipse has repeated her win last weekend by taking the Novice Area Final at Buckminster on Sunday 6th July. Future Eclipse has now qualified for the Novice Championships at Gatcombe next month, as well as being qualified for the Intermediate Championships next year. The showjumping proved a decisive factor in the outcome of the event, and many good combinations came away with faults, however another stunning clear round after a good dressage, left Future Eclipse amongst the leaders. A perfectly judged cross country by Tiny ensured that no further penalties were added and Future Eclipse finished on her dressage score, enabling her to take the section. Tiny also won the Doresa Challenge Shield for the highest placed local rider - Well done Tiny!

Future Eclipse wins Aske Hall Intermediate Section !
Future Eclipse recorded her first win at Intermediate level at Aske Hall on Saturday 28th June. Lying 2nd after dressage, she completed a foot perfect show jumping round to put her into first place before cross country. The time proved difficult to get, and with no horses completing inside the time, Future Eclipse's 7.2 time penalties did not affect the final result. She completed the event over 8 penalties clear of her nearest rival. Well done Tiny! This result qualifies Future Eclipse for the Intermediate Championships at Gatcombe in 2004.
